Many of the diagnoses made in Hospital Picaso are only possible thanks to our histopathology laboratory. Located on level 7, the lab provides a comprehensive range of tests that are vital for our specialists to determine and better understand the type of cancer we are dealing with.
 

Hospital Picaso Histopathology Laboratory Services

The services our lab provides can be broken down into main categories:

Histology

Histopathology Examination (HPE)
Routine histopathological examination to assess tissue morphology and identify abnormalities, such as cancerous cells or inflammatory changes.
Frozen Section (FS)
A rapid tissue processing technique for obtaining a quick pathological diagnosis during surgery, allowing surgeons to make real-time decisions regarding the extent of surgery needed or the need for additional tissue sampling.
Immunohistochemistry Stain (IHC)
Used to visualise specific proteins within cells or tissues by exploiting the principles of antigen-antibody interactions and for aiding in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment decisions for various diseases, including cancer and autoimmune disorders.
Special Stain (SS)
The use of a variety of dyes and techniques to stain particular tissues, structures or pathogens for tissue-based diagnoses.

Cytology

Gynaecology (Pap Smear/LBC)
A cervical cytology test commonly used to screen for cervical cancer and detect precancerous changes in cells collected from the cervix during a pelvic examination.
Non-gynaecology (Body Fluids)
Cytology tests that can be conducted on fluids such as urine, cerebrospinal fluid, pleural fluid, peritoneal fluid, and ascitic fluid to detect abnormal cells associated with various diseases, such as cancer.
Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC)
A cytological test for obtaining cells from solid masses or lumps such as those found in the breast, thyroid, lymph nodes or other organs for diagnostic evaluation.
